Minification is the practice of removing unnecessary characters from code to reduce its size thereby improving load times. When code is minified all comments are removed, as well as unneeded white space characters (space, newline, and tab) [Source: Yahoo.com].
A smaller CSS file takes less bandwidth to transfer to a visitors browser, which makes for faster loading times of your web page.
If your CSS was compliant before minification, it will be after.
